  • 1999 - Arkansas Medical Society Alliance / American Medical Association Foundation Scholarship. Award for superior academic achievement, community service, volunteer work and leadership potential.

  • 1998 - Outstanding Young Men of America. Award for outstanding professional achievement, superior leadership ability and exceptional service to the community.

  • 1998 - Honors Research Program. Research grant awarded, after acceptance of a submitted abstract, to medical students in the upper one-half of their class.

Community Involvement And Extracurricular Activities:


  • 2007 - 2009 - Peitz Cancer Support House Advisory Board. Baxter Regionals Medical Center’s cancer program to provide support for both those diagnosed with cancer and their families, as well as implementing educational and preventative outreach programs for the community.

  • 2000 - Medical School Interview Committee. Fourth year medical students selected to interview medical school applicants.

  • 1999 - Mash Lecturer. Counseled high school students about academic and career plans.

  • 1999 - Rural Practice Preceptorship. Preceptorship with family practitioners in a rural setting in Forrest City, Arkansas.

  • 1998 - Tar Wars (Tobacco Education Program). Counseled junior h high students about the risks associated with smoking and smokeless tobacco use.

  • 1998 – 1999 - Fighting Aids Through Education (F.A.T.E.). Counseled high school students about safe sex practices and risks associated with unprotected sex.

  • 1996 – 1998 - Recruiter/Mentor. Big Brother-Big Sister Program of Pulaski County, Arkansas.

  • 1992 – 1993 - CPR Instructor. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.


Elected Positions:


  • 2000 – 2001 - Council Member of Arkansas Medical Society. District 10, sole representative of medical students to help express concerns and positions on legislative issues and proposals by the Arkansas Medical Society.

  • 2000 – 2001 - Honor Council Co-President.

  • 1999 – 2001 - Honor Council Member. Liaison between faculty and students regarding indiscretions and possible honor code violations. The committee is composed of four elected students from each medical school class.

  • 1999 – 2000 - State Chair of AMA Student Section for Arkansas. Served as representative to convey information from a national level to the state level.

  • 1999 – 2000 - President of American Medical Association/Arkansas Medical Society Medical Student Section. Arranged meetings and guest speakers for an organization with a 450 plus membership of medical students.

  • 1998 - Arkansas Delegate in the House of Delegates. Medical Student Section. Annual and Interim meetings in Chicago & San Diego. Voting representative for the American Medical Association – Medical Student Section for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

  • 1999 - Pediatric Clerkship Medical Student Representative. Served as an elected liaison between faculty and third year medical students.

  • 1999 - Executive Council Member. Medical Education Foundation for Arkansas. Committee that reviews funding for medical education and allotment of funds for the state of Arkansas.


Research Experience:


  • 1998 – 2001 - Honors Research Project. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (U.A.M.S.), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Mentor: Timothy O’Brien, Ph.D., Elucidated characteristics of a tumor marker in an attempt to classify it to a glycoprotein family.

  • 1997 - Research Assistant. U.A.M.S. Department of Medicine Division of Nephrology, Mentor: William B. Reeves, M.D. Continuing experimentation on renal function.

  • 1996 – 1997 - Research Assistant. U.A.M.S. Department of Pathology in conjunction with the John L. McLellan V.A.M.C. Department of Medicine Division of Nephrology. Performed experiments to elucidate factors playing roles in the regeneration of the kidney following episodes of ischemia or Acute Renal Failure.

  • 1994 – 1996 - Graduate Student and Research Assistant. U.A.M.S.,Department of Pathology. Mentor: Patrick Walker, M.D.

  • 1994 - Undergraduate Research Appointee. U.A.M.S., Department of Physiology. Mentor: Timothy Wall, Ph.D. Studies included methamphetamine-induced hyperthermia in animal models and weightlessness experiments.
